Do I need a special bra?

I'm scheduled for my LVAD on 7/17/18. I have done a lot of research but can't seem to find much about bras. I'm a big breasted woman and worry that the weight of my breasts will pull on the incision and either tear it or at least increase the pain. I've seen special post surgical bras that are front closure with Velcro instead of the regular hooks but I don't know if I really need one. Front closure are supposed to be easier to put on after surgery but will a regular one rub against the incision? What have others done? Thanks for any help or suggestions you have.

Hi Bubbazuz! First of all, good luck with your LVAD surgery. I've had mine for 6-1/2 years and am going strong. There have been a few issues, but overall, life is very good. To tell you the truth, I don't remember any issues with my incision or wearing a bra at all. I think that, by the time I got out of the hospital, I was pretty well healed and considered barely considered the incision. The overall LVAD learning process kind of over-shadowed the incision. Again, good luck.

good luck with your surgery. My husband has had his lvad for two years now and all the bumps with it so far have been a God sent. He is alive and we do everything we want to do.

I am a LVAD coordinator and former cardiothoracic ICU nurse. We have special bras in our hospital for woman with large breasts post-op in order to protect the incision. I would inquire at the hospital, I'm sure they have. Good luck!
