Has anyone had discussions on disconnecting the LVAD (stopping life support) if there are severe health issues? We are facing this now with strokes slowly taking away abilities.

Hi everyone! My farher was implanted by a heartmate 3, three months ago. He is slowly recovering from the surgery and getting used to the device. Yet he always feels something like mehanical 'beats' in the thorax.

I've travelled with my LVAD to US locations without any hiccups. As others have stated, putting your gear into carry on bags is the way to go.

I came in a little late for this so I may have just missed it. Just wanted to make sure since the recording said I was early and no one else had arrived yet even though I know I was late. Thanks...and hang in there caregivers...it really DOES get better...gradually.

Hello all, new here at the site and am impressed with the great posts and info! I am just overt 2 months out of surgery and am feeling good. Getting around a lot now and well as you might guess, looking for alternative carrying options. I was thinking about modifying a backpack or pocketed vest.

Apart from being mistaken for a terrorist (I prefer to wear the 'GO-GEAR' vest), living with the HEARTMATE 11 has been infinately more comfortable than living with oedema.

This inspiring article below shares the story of Ruby Howell who's part of the choir at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Tennessee. Before having the LVAD implanted other methods of treatment were tried and were not successful.

Hello all. I have a family member who received his VAD mid-2011. It has been quite the journey since day 1. As of today, the pump has been replaced 3 times - twice due to a clot. He has been hospitalized for months at a time either due to infection or a low INR. He's lost hope.
