MyLVAD Community Spotlight: Jeremy Hammerman, Reflections from a New Dad & LVAD Recipient

If someone were to come to me last Father?s Day and tell me that a year from now my whole world would be on its head, I probably would have believed them because I had just become a Dad. But if they were to tell me my heart would fail and that I would have an implant to keep me going, I would have laughed at them. I would have told them they didn?t know me at all and that I was fine. Well, if that had happened, then the joke would have been on me. Last Father?s Day was my first ever and it was great spending it with my 1-month-old daughter, Jailyne. This year is going to be just a little different. On July 31st, ten days after my 35th birthday, I found out that I had heart failure with an ejection fraction rate of 7%. I was told I would need a LVAD to keep me alive and that I would return to a fairly normal life.
