Looking for other lvac recipients who are visually impaired

My 76 year old mother is about to recieve an lvad next week. The surgery is frightening to her as well as our family, but being visually impaired has raised even more concerns with her, hercaregivers, family, and even her doctors. This was a major factor when even being consitered for the surgery. She will not be able to change her own batteries or dressings, and cannot see the alerts that may come up on the device. As she gets stronger and should be gaining more independance, she still will require someone with her at all times(yes, even when she sleeps) in case an alarm goes off and you need to see whats going on. If there is someone else who is living with an lvad and is visually impaired we would love some input and advice that might help alliviate some our anxiety. My family and I would truly appreciate knowing there is someone else out there that can understand her situation, but advice from anyone living with an lvad or their caretakers would also be welcome.
