Driveline Port area rash

Been dealing with a rash around the port area. Port is not infected. My skin can't take anymore adhesive. Wondering if anyone has experienced this situation. Any help or suggestion would help!!!

Hi Lee

Sorry I did not see your last post to me. Unfortunately the "Covid" finally caught up with me and I have been under the weather. I will read your posts again and see if there is any thing else I can possibly suggest until you see wound specialist. Unfortunately it will probably be ont he w/e before I have a chance. Have you tried an ice pack over dressing to try to calm pain.  DO NOT put on bare skin as you could burn yourself.  Diane

Hi Diane

Sorry to hear you finally caught it. I try to be as safe as I can. I'm home alot cause I don't want to catch it. No worries on getting back to me. I have an appt w/ my Primary Dr on 2/3. He wants to see the rash. It's still inflammed and I do the best I can at this point. So I have another week until I can get some relief. I just want this rash to subside so I can live kinda normal again. I can handle the batteries....monitor....wires and all that "stuff" that goes with it. I just wanna be able to walk across the room without someone sanding my stomach with an 80 grit piece of sandpaper. It was good to hear from you and get some rest. I do appreciate your concern and help for me!!!

Hi Lee  We both have finally returned to somewhat normal level after the Covid. How are you doing with your rash? Did you get the IV 3000 and did it help? The other thing I was thinking of is the disinfectant cleaner you are using. I see someone mentioned Vashe and you said you were going to try Exsept. Any progress with that. We use dynahex 4 but had to cut the amount used in the sterile water by a half because it was causing redness as well. Someone else said to clean with sterile water. We do 4 applications using sterile water and sterile gauze to be sure all soap is removed from exit site and skin. Be patient. You will conquer this !!! Diane

Hi Diane, glad you are feeling better. I've been using the sterile water pads and it has helped tremendously. Then spread alittle T-cream around and let it dry then apply my bandage. What a difference. I'm currently in the hospital with diverticulitis. Trying to shake it off. Inflammation of the colon.

Lee I am sorry to hear about that. Are the hospital nurses doing the dressing now? Are you at your LVAD center? Maybe the LVAD Coordinator can help you out. Hope you are home soon.  Diane

I was discharged 2 days ago. I feel like this just set me back a year. Struggling to get around again. Major diet change. I did see the LVAD  team everyday when I was in and they are still baffled. The RN's did my dressing changes under my instruction....twice while was in. Had a bloody nose all day yesterday!!! UGH!!!! My INR shot up big-time while I was in.
