I've had my device for 3 years and the past couple of months, the skin under the bandage and the foley anchor has started to itch, but I don't know from what. I don't know if it's the Tegraderm, the cloraprep which my doctor said to switch to alcohol to clean the area, or the skin prep solution.

Today, I took my first shower since my LVAD was implanted 6 1/2 months ago. It was absolute heaven. I was very nervous but it was actually easier than I expected. It was a little time consuming but I am sure that once I get a routine down it will become old hat.

This may not be the forum for this question, but who better to answer my questions than those living with an LVAD and the people who care for them.

I have been imparted with HVAD (Heartware Ventricular Assist Device) 2 months before. I am based in India and am the first one to get this device in whole of India (may be in Asia too).

My 17 year old son just found out he needs an LVAD as bridge treatment to a transplant. He is not happy about it. Are there any other young people on here with an LVAD? Any advice?

I received my LVAD on June 3, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital (University of Rochester Medical Center), Rochester, NY. Dr. H. Todd Massey was my surgeon. Simply put, I am alive due to my LVAD. Yes, there are life-style changes, but well worth it if you wish to be among the living.

Does anyone use ChloraPrep to clean the driveline exit site instead of chlorhexidine gluconate soap and water? If ChloraPrep is used, what type of dressing is performed? Does the ChloraPrep cause any irritation ? Thank you !

Being toned while staying skinny isn't as healthy for you, as most of us were told. In past decades, being thin with developed muscles was thought to be the ultimate fitness goal. Today the opposite version of physical chic has become dominant, being skinny with a high percentage of body fat.

I have a problem with the adhesive used on the dressing. My problem is I get skin tears when removing the dressing! They bleed and since I take warfarin to keep my INR correct they are hard to stop. We tried different dressings and cleaning agents but I stil have this problem.

I received my LVAD in June of 2011. My suggestion to all prospective transplant recipients is to begin working out as soon as possible and continue to buildup.

Hi. My brother (24 years old) has had LVAD for about a month. He doesn't feel like eating and/or feel sick when tries to eat something. Does anyone had the same situation? If so, it would be appreciated how you managed the situation.
